  Why do elders come unnanounced.......

  yeah, like these guys never make appointments.

  just stroll up when it suits them and not you.

  is it ignorance or simply a matter of discourtesy?

  Witnesses are taught from the beginning of their JW existence to be rude in a very similar manner – the house-to-house work. For most householders the time of the Witness call is not convenient. So, all of us, as former JWs have been rude to the general public.

  Same goes for the “shepherding work.” A simple phone call to schedule a mutually convenient time would be the gentlemanly thing to do. Similarly, COs (who set the example for elders) rarely call “weak” or inactive JWs ahead of time to schedule an appointment during their visit to “encourage” such ones. They just show up, or at least that was my experience in the old days of my JWism.

  The CO's visit

  this past week was the visit of our circuit overseer.

  i know what you are thinking so before i post some of his comments that i personally found interesting, i only went to keep peace in the family and not give rise to suspicion about my true feelings.

  so with that said, here are some things that grabbed my attention.. 1) his talk thursday nite was about being successful and how the world's view of success is far different than the organizations.

  The WTs Biggest Deceptions

  i was just wondering what do the members of this board think the biggest deception in the teaching of the watchtower society is?.

  one of the biggest deceptions for me, one that stuck like a thorn in my side was their deception on earthquakes, hence my previous thread on the last days.

  the wts, as i recall, published supposed proof of the increase in earthquakes since 1914. i was so angry when i found out that this was an outright lie.

  For me the biggest deception was their equating “eating” blood with transplanting (transfusion) blood. This deception went on for years before they finally dropped use of the term “eating” blood when they meant transplanting blood. I don’t think they were smart enough to know the difference in the beginning.

  They still refer to the scriptures that ban eating blood as though they stated that transplanting blood was banned. They just stopped using the word “eating.” The deception continues.

  was it for love of the kingdom hall and jehovah?

  pressure .. felt like you had to?

  for me it was because all my friends my age had gotten baptized.. and it was left up to me to do it too.. to fit in i guess.

  believe it or not the motives are love, at least in my case.

  i know that sometimes jw's on this board do not show that, but it goes the same with some ex-jw's too.. am i going against wt counsel?

  yes, but i am willing to pay the price to help my fellow man, specially if i see that they blinded by resentment and are going contrary to jehovah's will.. why does the wt give the counsel to stay away from site such as this?

  I personally do not know anyone here who “hates all JWs.” I suppose there may be someone here who fits that description, but the vast majorities here probably love the victims of hateful WTS policies. They sometimes risk their own wellbeing to come here and engage in efforts to help their family members and friends get out of the “Borg.”

  Many here hate the murderous blood prohibition and the hateful shunning policies of the WTS. Child molestation cover-ups are another policy area that we hate. But, we don’t hate the victims.

  It may be hard for some of us to avoid hating those who perpetuate the policies that murder physically and kill spiritually, certain former WTS presidents, GB members and hard-nosed COs and Dos come to mind.

  Most of us only feel sorry for the six million JWs that are victims of Brooklyn. Our feelings are far removed from hatred.

  Hi Uncle_Onion,

  Pains come and go all the time. As an older man I can assure you of that fact. Let me illustrate:

  A couple of years ago I developed a rather severe pain in one of my hips. It was noticeable enough that I told my doctor about it. He had it x-rayed (both hips while he was at it). The results? Both hips were normal! The pain soon disappeared. Has it ever returned? Yes, I notice it when I am fatigued and/or under more than the usual amount of stress.

  My middle-aged son recently told me that he is noticing pain in places he never expected. They come out of the blue and eventually usually recede where they came from.

  Honor among exJws

  hello all......some things that have happened during the past week have made me think about exjws and honor.

  we all remember 'theocratic warfare' and how it is ok to lie to those who don't deserve the truth.

  so, my question is.....are exjws as a group more dishonest than people from other religious groups?

  My impression (based on meeting a few and observing several close-up) is that many are outstanding in intellect, honesty and zeal for finding the real truth. Look at the work of Metatron, Maximus, Seeker, Hawkaw, Shilmar, Silentlambs, Amazing, Norm, Lee elder and many others. The honesty of these has attracted such fine individuals as Sam Muramoto and John Doyle to come to their assistance.

  Honest people are turned-off by Watchtower dishonesty, have had their fill of dishonesty and (IMHO) try harder than they ever did as JWs to be honest.

  Among ex-JWs I have also known of several sleazy characters, some of these were even thrown out by the JWs for dishonesty or immorality. While official shunning has many problems as has been discussed on this board elsewhere, some of these characters are persons that I would not want to associate with.

  So, bottom line: You can find all sorts among ex-JWs, but I know of many who try very hard to be as honest as is humanly possible, especially after coming out of the dishonest JW environment.

  Did his remarks come across like they sound here? That is, that JWs should be concerned about the “organization’s” view rather than God’s view, or the Bible’s view.

  Later you said: “The society is very concerned about the number missing from the meetings.”

  Sometime back they said that JWs should get away from the expression “the society says.” Are they going right back to their old ways?

  For all x-JW's: quick question.....

  if you remember, i've been inquiring about how to discuss jw issues with my boyfriend's sister.

  it appears she is accepting the watchtower driven interpretations of the bible, but we are still not giving up.

  if you are willing, would you respond, in a nutshell, to the question, "what is the doctrine or belief that the jw's hold that was most instrumental in leading you to abandon this religion?

  Hi Kathy,

  For me the ‘breaker’ was their blood doctrine. At first, back in the 40s and 50s they banned all blood therapies (whole blood, plasma, platelets, etc.). Over the years they have gradually loosened the restrictions on components (fractions) of blood. One by one different components have become “permitted” such as albumin and clotting factors. Now, virtually all individual components of blood are permitted so long as they are taken separately rather than together.

  Most JWs do not realize this. Only when they become very ill, to the point perhaps of needing blood, are they presented this information by one of their hospital liaison committee members. True, this information can be found ahead of time if one knew where in the WTS publications to find it (this information is scattered over years of literature) and if one knew how to recognize the veiled language used. Almost no regular witness fully understands this information. Even most elders are unaware of the extent of the blood components that are permitted unless he has specifically had reason to learn from a HLC member.

  The WTS purposely keeps its members ignorant so that their convoluted policy remains undiscovered. This policy is nothing short of murderous.
